Teaching English

Just over a year ago I ventured into something that I knew God was pushing me towards and I wasn't sure why...I am now seeing why. Let me explain.

When we were having orientation in Costa Rica for language school a lady who used to go there gave this little talk about what she does now as a missinoary there close to the school. She explained that they teach an English class a couple times a year for about 8 weeks at a time and was asking for people to help. God was really tugging at me to get more information and I just kept backing off, finally, I went and talked to her and couldn't believe what I was saying, "Yeah, I'll help." It was only one night a week for a couple of hours so I thought it would be fine and a good time for me to have a break. Well, I learned a ton from teaching English and made a couple great friends in the mean time. All this to say, part of my job here in the DR has been organizing English classes for our Dominican staff and their families. I know see why God was pushing me. :)

We started two weeks ago with a placement test and snacks. Last week was our first real class. We have them split into three different groups. One group is pretty high and the other two are kind of a beginner high and beginner low. It was so much fun! And, to my surprise, we had 30 people and more that want to come. Not bad for the first time.

Below is a picture of the first day. More pictures will follow soon. Please be praying for me and the two other teachers and that we can be effective in teaching them and also for the Dominicans that they will be patient with the language and eager to learn.
