It has been over a year since I've taught math, science, social studies, reading, or writing.
It has been over a year since I've sat in a staff meeting.
It has been over a year since I've eaten lunch with a great group of teachers.
It has been over a year since I've sang silly songs to 7 year olds.
It has been over a year since I've made copies on a copy machine.
It has been over a year since I've been a teacher...
AND MAN DO I MISS IT!
Ever since I was a little girl, first grade actually, I dreamed about being a teacher. My first grade teacher was AMAZING and I knew from that moment on that I would be a teacher like her. (Thanks Mrs. Krawczyk-Robin, as I now know you as) She loved all her students. She made class fun. She taught me how to spell words like yesterday. :) So many memories of school in my younger years go back to her class and I'm grateful for that experience because for me, it was God's way of showing me how a GREAT teacher was supposed to be.
Well, I have started putting my teaching skills back to use, a little bit. :) I am preparing to help the teachers at our 3 preschools here in Jarabacoa. I'm not sure how it will go with teaching teachers, since it is my first time, but I will work hard at it, just as I worked hard at being a teacher to second graders.
This post is meant for all my teacher friends and mentors. You are the person that students see the most in a day...make it worth it for them. Make them want to come to school every day. Love them and care for them and be there home away from home. I know it's tough, especially the first few weeks, but in the end, it's worth it. It's worth the smile you will receive or the hug, or even the joy at the end of the year when you see the growth that each child has made. Make a difference. Be the best. I love you all so much and am so glad that I've had the opportunity to have you as a teacher or teach with you or just train with you to be a teacher.
Here are a couple encouraging verses for you:
1 Corinthians 15:58 "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Romans 12:7 "If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well."
Philippians 4:19 "And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Happy SCHOOL year!!!
Happy school year to you, too!
