Fun & Friends
When you move thousands of miles away from everything comfortable it's a little tough.
I'm so thankful for the beauty that God has created here in the DR. We are amazed at the creation here in the waterfalls, mountains, butterflies, and many other things. God knew exactly what we needed in order to continue to praise him for who he is. Every morning when I wake up and look outside and see the peaks of the mountains, I think, "How Great Is Our God". Below is a picture of a waterfall we visited that was just about a fifteen minute drive from our house. We just stood there when we came out of the forest from the hike staring at it. Grady says, "Mom, God makes cool things."
Another thing I am so thankful for is FRIENDS. It was so hard to leave family and friends that we've known all of our lives or most of our lives. When we first arrived we were greeted by the York Family who we knew would become our great friends. Below is a picture of Lindsay and I. Lindsay has started a women's bible study in her home and we have really grown to be great friends. I'm so thankful for her Godly wisdom.
Below is a picture of another great friend of ours, Nate, who will be leaving the DR in just two days. He and his wife Maggie have been in the DR for over nine years. They were our connection to coming here and we have loved getting to know them and are sad that they are leaving, but know that GOD has great things ahead for them as they begin the next chapter starting SI in Nicaragua. This picture cracks me up because I don't think I've ever seen Nate be that silly. :) Wyatt has loved Nate. If any of you know Wyatt, it takes a while for him to become friends with adults, he gets a little shy. He and Nate have been buddies ever since we arrived. Thank you Nate for being such a positive influence in our boys' lives.
Below, Wyatt and Darren enjoy some popcorn after our dinner at their house. He speaks no English and he and Wyatt have the same personalities...so the evening consisted of them not getting along and getting in trouble together. GREAT! :)
And this is Yajaira...she is a great friend of mine who is teaching me how to cook Dominican. Hans has worked a lot on her and her husband Daniel's house to get it ready for semester students. We are grateful for their friendship and wisdom as we try to adapt to their culture.
