We Made It!

After two years of preparing we are finally here in the Dominican Republic. So excited for the first blog post from our final destination. I don't have pictures yet so you'll just have to bare with my writing about our last few days.

On Tuesday our journey began at about 2am to be able to get to the airport by 5:15am. We got there at about 5:30 and bags were checked in quickly. We said some very tough goodbyes to our parents and headed off. Our plane was on time and we left the ground at 7:15am. We arrived in Miami, but couldn't land right away because President Obama was just leaving or getting to the airport and so all the planes had to circle in the air until all was clear. (Funny!) We had one hour to go cleearrrr across the airport to catch our next flight. We got there, out of breath, at 11:05...just in time for boarding. Our flight to Santiago, D.R. was smooth and painless. :) The boys did well and were excited to get there. One time Wyatt did ask if we were going to see grandma and grandpa though. :) He's still a little confused. We landed right on time and had no problems through immigration, met Nate, packed up and headed to our house.

Our house: We were so tired by the time we actually got here. I don't even remember what time it was. We unpacked a few things, ate some supper that was so graciously prepared by some SI staff, and went to bed very early. Lots of new night noises to get used to...like the loud ferocious bark of our big, scary looking dog that's really a big teddy bear. He's a great watch dog and we're glad to have him, I just wish I could get some sleep with him around. Our house fits our needs great for right now. We have 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms and a great fenced in yard. I'll put pictures on soon. We will be here for about six weeks and then our plan is to move into another couples' house that will be moving out at that time. We saw their house today and it's amazing: three bedrooms and two bathrooms inside and then there's another room attached to the carport with bunk beds and bathroom (for anyone who wants to visit) :) They have a great yard with a cemented driveway and fences all around. We are so excited about it!!!

Some random thoughts from being here a day now:

There's a green lizard on my wall right now.
There's a mosquito net above our bed.
A cockroach invaded my chair earlier.
Milk comes in a box.
Streets are bumpy and busy ALL the time.
Dogs bark all day long.
I really do like rice and beans.
The SI staff is GREAT!
My clothes sit on a shelf, not in a dresser.
You wash dishes with cold water.
We have to turn a switch on to have hot water.
Now we're forced to speak Spanish.
MANGOS!
The power has gone out twice already.

Thank you for your prayers through this transition. We are truly grateful for all of you. I will post pictures as soon as I get a few minutes to take some. :)
