Earthquake

What is an earthquake?

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.

On Friday night around 8pm we experienced our first earthquake here in Costa Rica. They say it was a 6.1 magnitude which is pretty strong, but no damage was done and no injuries were reported. Thank you Jesus! We were on the floor playing UNO when we saw and heard our front door shaking like crazy. We got up fast thinking someone was trying to get into our house. Then, we realized that we were shaking and so was everything else...an earthquake. It didn't last long, 10 or 15 seconds, but it was long enough for us to really feel what it's like to be shaken up a little bit.

So, what did I learn from this?

I learned that sometimes in life we need to be shaken up a little bit to get our priorities straight. If we never had any "earthquakes" in our lives we would never grow and mature. For me, Costa Rica has been a mild earthquake. Things are different and we're away from family. God showed me quickly that although life is not the same as before, He is in control and He will always be in control. Thank you God for the earthquakes in our lives that keep us running back to you and keep us growing in you.
