Costa Rica

We made it to the beautiful country of Costa Rica!!!

On Monday night we were greeted at the airport by Hans's cousin Lyndon and his wife Krista, along with their two children Karis and Jeremy (who are the same ages as our boys). It was so great to see some people we knew. They took us to our apartment, helped us unload, and even bought us a few groceries to get us started. I thank God so much for them and the fact that we will be living here with them so close for this time during language school.

On Tuesday we took the morning to get settled in and unpacked. Then, we went to the school and met the boys' teachers and saw their classrooms. Then, that evening, we met the people that live upstairs, who are also here for language school and have a 1year old daughter. We ate supper with them and just got to know them a little bit. She speaks a little bit of spanish, so that's nice when it comes to getting a taxi or talking to our landlord.

On Wednesday the boys started school so that we could go to orientation. Really their school days don't start until next Tuesday, it's more of babysitting right now. But, none the less, Grady could not wait to go. He picked out his clothes and wanted Wyatt to dress the same. :) Wyatt screamed most of the day in the preschool, but got better by the end. Grady did great. We ventured into town and got groceries at "walmart". It's close to our walmart, just with a different name. We got some things and rode in a taxi, which the boys loved. They don't have to have carseats, so they are loving that. We actually ate supper for the first time together that night which was really nice.

Today Wyatt did much better at school and Grady still did great too. We met a couple that has two boys the same ages as us so we're excited about that. There are so many young couples with kids, mostly boys, and we're excited to get to know them and think it will be great for the boys.

Prayer Requests:

1. That we will adjust to our apartment and the CR way of living.
2. For the boys at school.
3. That we will not get discouraged learning the language.
4. For protection as we have to walk 15 minutes to school and back each day.

  4. Courtney, their teachers only speak Spanish. Grady's teacher speaks a little English, but Wyatt's speaks none. There are a lot of English speaking staff to help out though. It's the best way for them to learn it.

John, great to hear from you. I was wondering how to get a hold of you. I hear you got a new job? Congrats. Keep in touch.

  6. Kids are amazing at adapting to a new language. I have heard that kids pick up languages much easier than adults. I am sure they will be teaching you guys new words soon! I am glad things are going so well for you! May God continue to richly bless you on this journey!!
